Therapy for Wholehearted Living

As a Clinical Psychologist, my approach is wholehearted, warm, collaborative, explorative, and non-judgmental. I believe therapy is for everyone, and there is no one issue too small or great – as Greek philosopher Socrates famously stated, “To know thyself is the beginning of all wisdom”.
We can focus on a specific problem area you bring to therapy, and delve to a deeper level of understanding of the issue/s so as to resolve it, or we can work in a more fluid, open-ended manner, with self-discovery in mind.
While I am not resistant to diagnosis and working within a pathological lens, I like to see people outside of narrow diagnostic labels. In the first instance, my first approach is to understand a client’s suffering by learning about them as unique individuals with complex histories and adaptive coping strategies.
As I engage wholeheartedly with clients, my ask is that clients attempt to engage wholeheartedly in their commitment to the therapy process.

An area of knowledge and passion is Complex Trauma (otherwise known as Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). This is trauma resulting from a number of experiences – usually interpersonal in nature, and often beginning in childhood through abuse or neglect. Consequently, I have worked extensively with victim/survivors of sexual assault and family violence.
Prior to completing a Masters in Clinical Psychology, I spent many years working in secondary schools as a teacher. The socio-emotional suffering of many students, along with teacher burnout, and parent stress, quickly became the focal-point of my attention, leading me to pursue a career in Psychology.
Psychodynamic Therapy is my primary mode of therapy. I also integrate a range of treatment modalities including Self Compassion, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Polyvagal Theory into my work with clients. My therapy, no matter with whom, is always trauma-informed. I am able to take clients for one-off sessions, or more enduring work utilising the 10 sessions rebated through Medicare or other third-party Insurance companies.
The key to Psychodynamic Therapy is developing true conscious self-awareness, through a deep process of reflection and analysis of your past and present relationships. In therapy, connections are made with your real emotions and feelings, as well as focusing on dynamics and attachments to early key figures in your life. Your default behaviour and belief patterns will be examined, as these are often set in childhood, informing how we may move through the world and see ourselves in different environments and in relation to others. This process of self-discovery through psychodynamic therapy can, therefore, bring healing as we integrate our own history and adventure toward self-growth.
By virtue of us operating from a more conscious position in how we interpret situations around us and behave in response, healing in relationships around us usually also occurs.
